Why Web Learning?

"The best way to think about the Web for learning is not how to use it to replace your classroom instructors."

How the Web is Used for Learning

"Web sites that have an educational purpose can be classified into major groups."

Learning Environments

"Before you start creating a Web learning environment, you will need to conduct a learner-technology assessment."

Communities of Learners

"A workplace learning community includes all the formal information that might be conveyed in a classroom course, as well as all the social nuances that make that information work on a daily basis."

Pros and Cons of Using the Web for Learning

"Studies are beginning to show that the cost savings of using the Web for learning can be real and immediate."

Organizing Content for Web Learning

"Because you are creating learning for a workplace, adopt a content organization strategy that focuses on doing rather than knowing."

Presentation Strategies for Web Learning

"Presentation strategies can be greatly enhanced in a Web environment."

Web Learning Activities

"The Web can facilitate learning activities that are difficult or impossible in other environments."

Assessing Web Learning and Web Learning Environments

"Assessing learning includes assessing the learning environment."

Using Instructors in Web Learning Environments

"Web teaching is less about information dissemination and more about organizing the students' interaction with each other and the material, and this requires the instructor to be responsive and competent in on-line activities."
